Organized by the National Council of Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH), the awards were presented by Mohd Anuar bin Embi, Director General, Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia. Northport’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof was present to receive the awards.
NCOSH is a supreme body under the Ministry of Human Resources, responsible for determining the direction and policy in relation to occupational safety and health (“OSH”) in Malaysia. The main objective of the establishment of NCOSH is to ensure that the safety, health and welfare of employees in the workplace are protected. NCOSH Award is one of the most prestigious recognitions in Malaysia to honour organizations and individuals with proven outstanding occupational safety and health performance.
For the record, Northport is the reigning Business Services category winner after receiving the award at the National Occupational Safety and Health Award 2019 in February 2020.
“Over the years, we have made continuous improvement to our HSE (health, safety and environment) measures to protect our employees and port users from safety and health hazards. We have further strengthened our measures, especially during the last two years, in our effort to fight against COVID-19 pandemic. These awards are the testament of our firm commitment in promoting HSE as an essential part of our business operations.” said Dato’ Azman.
Northport has been recognised with several awards and recognitions for its outstanding commitment in conducting its business operations at the highest level of HSE. Earlier in May this year, Northport won the International Association of Ports and Harbours (“IAPH”) 2022 Sustainability Award under the Health Safety and Security category during the IAPH 2022 World Ports Conference held in Vancouver, Canada. With a project titled “Journey Towards HSE Excellence”, Northport defeated two other finalists, Port of Montreal and Port of Amsterdam, in this category. Northport is the first Malaysian port to receive this prestigious international award.
In 2019, Northport became the first Malaysian port to be awarded the ISO 45001:2018 standard. The certification signified Northport’s commitment to operate its business and activities at the highest level of occupational safety and health management systems across the organization.
Other awards and recognitions received by Northport in recent years for its HSE initiatives include the Best Port Safety Management Award from the Ministry of Transport Malaysia in 2021 and the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (“MSOSH”) Silver Award in 2016 and Gold Award in 2017 and 2018.
“I would like to thank the men and women of Team Northport for their perseverance, dedication and commitment in embracing Northport’s journey towards HSE excellence. We would also like to thank all our business partners, Government agencies, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders for their continuous support that helped us get to where we are today. We will continue this journey together in our quest to become a Safer, Greener, Smarter and Better port”, said Dato’ Azman.
