2nd busiest port Singapore handled 16.62M TEU in H1 2022 may see drop in rankings

Shanghai took the pole position 12 years ago. 15.54M TEU was handled by Ningbo-Zhoushan by end June when Trans-Pacific containers were diverted there from the March to May lockdown in Shanghai.
Ningbo-Zhoushan may overtake Singapore as 2nd busiest port if China decides to channel shipping traffic towards a smaller number of hub ports. The port handled 301 container services in July with monthly volume exceeding 3M TEU. Year-on-year, the port grew 26% with July at 3.28M TEU even after Shanghai lifted the lockdown.
Shanghai volume was down 1.8% to 22.54M TEU in H1 2022. Ningbo-Zhoushan was up 9%. Up to end June, liftings was down to 50.9 TEU for CMA CGM, COSCO, HMM, MAERSK, ONE and ZIM which is down 5.5% compared to the same period in 2021.
