MELL is a subsidiary of Pacific International Lines (PIL).

The vessels Kota Dunia and Selatan Damai participate in successful maiden calls to the port to test the facilities.

The new port was tested for the efficiency of the terminal digital operating systems. Both vessels with a total of 1,000 containers were successfully handled. Improvements will see efficient handling and faster processing time which will lead to savings and also reducing carbon emissions for shipping lines.

The state-of-the art Tibar Bay port is to replace Dili port which is 10km away. The new port will handle up to 750,000 containers annually. The port’s two berths pier is 630M in length, has associated cargo, customs and administrative buildings. Bolloré Group won a 30-year concession to design, build, own and operate Tibar Bay Port. Ownership of the port will pass to the government when the concession ends.

Tibar Bay Port will provide access for more and larger vessels, reducing the costs of imports and exports. It will overcome congestion, safety concerns and will cut the cost of doing business in Timor-Leste. The Tibar Bay Port will attract future private sector infrastructure investment to the country.

General Manager of MELL, Ng Chin Giaf – MELL has served Timor Leste for over a decade. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to show our commitment to the growth of Timor by deploying two of our vessels to participate in the testing of the country’s new world-class facility.

Chief Trade Officer of PIL, Tonnie Lim – Timor’s central location in Asia and proximity to the large Asian market of Indonesia has immense development potential.
